Enter the Desert: Listen for the Lord

Throughout 2006, the coordinator of the Loyola Pastoral Life Center, Mr. Butch Ekstrom, has worked with the staff of the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry (www.nfcym.org) – plus a team of associates – to design, prepare, and implement a one-day retreat called Enter the Desert: Listen for the Lord.

This retreat will be held on November 29 at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas. It will be experienced primarily by adults involved in Catholic youth ministry who will also attend the bi-annual National Conference on Catholic Youth Ministry. The retreat presenter will be distinguished author, lecturer, and teacher Dr. Wilkie Au.

Wednesday, November 29  --  2:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m.

Presenter: Dr. Wilkie Au  --  renowned spiritual writer and director, and professor of theology at Loyola Marymount University (in Los Angeles CA).
Cost: $40

Making life-giving choices is a life-long challenge. This retreat will present an approach to discernment (i.e. choosing with God) that integrates the wisdom of Christian tradition and psychology. By providing a broad and inclusive understanding of the multiple ways God can provide guidance, this retreat will help individuals to honor the unique and personal ways that they receive divine guidance, as well as provide guidelines that guard against possible self-deception and personal blind-spots. The retreat will include time for input based on the presenter's new co-authored book, The Discerning Heart, reflective exercises, and small group sharing.
