Why a Post-Master's Certificate in Pastoral Studies?

Individuals who have already earned a master’s degree from the Loyola Institute for Ministry — or hold a graduate-level degree in theology, pastoral studies, religious education, divinity, or religious studies from another accredited college or university — may choose to seek an additional professional credential called the Post-Master’s Certificate in Pastoral Studies. This certificate allows students to update their theology and practical ministry skills while finding a source of personal and spiritual fulfillment.

Courses may be taken on campus, online, or at LIM extension sites. LIM graduates may reapply on-line using a one-page form. Other students need to apply for full admission. Transfer credits from other educational institutions are not accepted. The Brochure on the Post-Master’s Certificate requires the Adobe Acrobat Reader

The Advanced Continuing Education Certificate in Pastoral Studies is also available if you hold a master’s degree, or a 36-credit Certificate of Pastoral Studies or Religious Education from LIM. The certificate is for students who seek a professional continuing education credential in specific ministerial areas to supplement their previous coursework.

Qualified applicants are eligible to earn the post-master’s or advanced certificate upon completion of two LIM Focus Areas (twelve credit hours). An application for the certificate is to be completed and emailed to the LIM office lim@loyno.edu upon successful completion of nine hours of course work toward the certificate (the first focus course of the second focus area).

Post-Master's Certificate Requirements

This program consists of 12 hours of specialized study through the completion of four 3-credit graduate-level courses in two Focus Areas. Students in their third course should contact the LIM admissions office to discuss course sequencing and availability.
